Offensive Wicked Campers vehicles face de-registration on Queensland roads under new law

State Parliament in February passed the Transport Operations Amendment Bill 2016 to rid Queensland roads of Wicked Campers’ offensive vehicles.
The Queensland law would allow the Department of Transport and main Roads to cancel a vehicle’s registration if the owners did not remove the offending slogans within 14 days of being advised to do so by the ASB’s Standards Board.

The Queensland government introduced the laws in response to complaints about slogans displayed on holiday hire vehicles such as Wicked Campers, which is based in Brisbane but operates around Australia.
These van slogans promote rape, encourage sexism and incite violence against women.

It is important to remember the work that Wicked Pickets have done to raise awareness and incite action.

Well done Wicket Picket Women. Keep up the work.

Women and girls have the right to live in a society free from sexist violence and governments and states have the responsibility to create meaningful laws that are enforced and respected. Women and girls deserve respect.
